Who we are

Staffordshire University has a long and proud history of providing high quality, progressive and inclusive higher education for people from across Staffordshire, the region, the UK and the rest of the world.

Where we are

We remain committed to reaching out to our learners and users in their own communities at home and overseas. To support this commitment we work from our own premises and those of our various local and international partners.

We have two main campuses in Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford and a co-funded University Centre in Lichfield (SULC).

Nursing and midwifery courses are taught at Stafford and, following the integration into the University in 1995 of the Shropshire and Staffordshire College of Nursing and Midwifery, there are also bases in Shrewsbury, Telford and Oswestry.

We also run a number of vocational courses, including a wide range of employer-backed foundation degrees, through our long-established network of further education colleges throughout Staffordshire and into Shropshire. This nationally recognised consortium is known as SURF (Staffordshire University Regional Federation) In addition, more than 5,000 students are studying for Staffordshire University awards at overseas partner institutions based in Europe and across Asia.

Recognising that geographical and time barriers can be a constraint to learning, we also continue to develop online courses for access at home and/or in the workplace.

What we do

The University continues to meet the needs of its students, partners, communities and employees now and in the future by embracing diversity, enabling and encouraging local regeneration and constantly seeking to provide easier access to learning for people from all walks of life.

16,000 students make up the University's vibrant cultural mix from the UK and around the world. One of the first things visitors notice about Staffordshire University is the wide diversity of ages, backgrounds, cultures, nationalities and lifestyles that make up our community, we also remain dedicated to fulfilling our responsibilities as a truly international centre of learning.

Innovative and challenging

The University provides an extensive range of courses at foundation, certificate, diploma, degree and postgraduate level in the areas of: arts, media and design; business and law; computing, engineering and technology; and health and sciences. It has a proven track record for achieving excellence in teaching quality, developing innovative courses and for providing opportunities to study in challenging and exciting ways. We are committed to ensuring our courses have a strong employment focus, giving graduates the knowledge and skills needed. The atmosphere at Staffordshire is friendly and the facilities are some of the best in the university sector. They include over 2,000 computers for students, well-equipped specialist laboratories and studios, professionally equipped media and TV centres, two sports centres, a nature reserve, film theatre, drama studio, crimescene aircraft and house, and mock courtrooms.

We are known for our fresh approach to learning, the application of research, the transfer of knowledge and the promotion of creativity and enterprise. Some of our many recent successes in these areas include our

National leadership in delivering government-backed, fast-track, two year degrees.
Investment in sector-leading facilities, including a fully equipped television studio in Stafford and a media centre with a working broadcast newsroom in Stoke-on-Trent.

Future-facing new courses, including computer games design, music technology, animation, forensic accounting and motorsport technology.

Creation of a fast growing graduate enterprise community based in Business Villages in Stoke, Stafford and Lichfield.

Applied research which has led to the development of new products in markets as diverse as medical technology and recycling.
